Service Update from OCHT

Otautahi Community Housing Trust (OCHT) will keep supporting our tenants during the COVID-19 Level 4 lockdown.

Community Housing is an Essential Service

Community Housing Providers were notified they are essential services on Tuesday 24 March. Our team members are working to ensure we continue providing services during lockdown period. Almost everyone is working from home, Alana and Cate are working in the office to support our fabulous newly constituted customer services team, Deni, Sam and Sian.

Warm & Dry Initiative Update

The four-week lockdown against the COVID-19 virus spread will unfortunately impact progress with our Warm & Dry initiative.

CDHB Public Health advised OCHT late on Wednesday 25 March to stop the heat pump installations to ensure everyone’s safety. This work is not considered an essential service. While we are disappointed, OCHT accepts this decision is the right thing for our tenants and contractors. Once the COVID-19 lockdown is lifted, we can restart the installation programme as quickly as possible.  Once OCHT has the all clear from the Government (lockdown is over), we will be back out in homes scoping and installing heat pumps and targeting the 909 highest priority homes.

We had been making great progress and had installed 340 heat pumps into OCHT homes. OCHT and Christchurch City Council remain absolutely committed to this programme.

Essential Maintenance

While we are in lockdown OCHT will continue to provide health and safety essential maintenance.

Gardens and lawns in complexes are not considered essential services but we will monitor them through the lockdown.
